When looking for someone to help, we typically look for someone with experience, or someone like us. So, who is Gary?
Experience:
I have always wanted to help others. So, in high school I started learning Spanish knowing that many of the people around me spoke it and that most of the Americas speak Spanish. I went on to get a degree in Spanish Literature and taught Spanish.
Wanting to be able to help others more, I decided to get a degree in counseling (MEdSC) from Dallas Baptist University, which is just a few miles from my home. After about ten years as a counselor in the school setting, I had the chance to become a nurse (BSN from Texas Woman’s University). My experiences including Emergency Department, Geriatrics, Gene Therapy Research working with Pediatrics, and hospital nursing focusing on Geriatrics.
But, I needed to bring these two sides of life together. So I returned to school one more time to get a degree (MSN) and certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Life Experience:
Outside of work, I have been married since 1997. Dori and I have three children. Garrett is the oldest. He has special needs. He non-verbal and requires support to accomplish most things. We are part of the Phelan McDermid Syndrome Family (PMSF.org). His twin, Rae, works in mental health as well. Our youngest got married in 2025 and works at Asbury University while working on her Master’s in Communications.
I enjoy playing the piano and trying to keep plants from dying. I have spent time in South America as a college level exchange student, which is were I really started learning Spanish.
Conclusion:
My goal is to help you! Whether you need someone who speaks Spanish, understands the school system as an insider or a parent, or realizes that at times life is hard raising a special needs child, I will do my best for you!
